Frequently Asked Questions Ahead of Your First Appointment

Where Are You Located and What Will Happen When I Enter Your Practice?

We are located in the heart of Port Credit in the Credit Landing Shopping Centre (224 Lakeshore Road West, Unit 5). We are located on the southeast section of the plaza near the RBC bank. There is a large parking lot that offers ample complimentary parking for your appointment.

When you enter our clinic, you will be greeted by our friendly front desk staff. They will obtain some information from you and check you in for your appointment. Everyone is always offered coffee, tea, or water while they wait in our bright waiting room.

Our Audiologist will be notified once you are checked in and will grab you from the waiting room at your appointment time. Although we try our best to run on time, occasionally we run a few minutes behind, so thank you in advance for your patience.

What Happens in a Hearing Test?

The first step while you’re with us is to conduct a comprehensive hearing test. Our goal is not just to discover if you have a hearing loss – we want to understand the reason behind it, which is why our testing is more advanced than many other clinics’.

This means that we’ll start by looking into your ears through an otoscope. This will allow us to see if earwax has accumulated in your ear canals or if there are signs that might require a referral to an ENT physician. If you have a lot of wax in your ear canals, you may need to have it removed before the hearing test can be done.

You then move into a series of tests including immittance, pure-tone audiometry, and speech testing – more information can be found here.

We’ll then review your results together and have a conversation to decide on the next steps depending on the outcome of your tests.

Can I Bring Somebody With Me to the Appointment?

Yes, it’s recommended and encouraged that you bring a loved one along.

In our experience, it’s the people around you who often have the most challenges with your hearing loss and it’s important that they’re part of the journey. Loved ones often contribute valuable feedback, can help you make decisions, and are a second set of ears to help take in all the information that is shared.

How Long Will the Appointment Last?

Your first appointment will last around 60 minutes as we comprehensively test your hearing and overall hearing health. We will share all results and recommendations with you during your appointment time.

What Is the Typical Investment for Hearing Aids?

Depending on the results of your hearing test, hearing aids may be recommended as a treatment option. This will be an investment in both your hearing and overall health, which means more than how much money you spend. It involves time and effort, and that is particularly important to keep in mind. Regardless of the investment, the critical factors to your success with hearing aids are how they are programmed by our Audiologists to fit your individual needs and how you ultimately use them.

You might ask yourself, “How do I know if this is right for me?”

As part of our comprehensive hearing assessment we take the time to understand what your lifestyle looks like and learn what’s important to you – we’ll then be able to make a professional recommendation based on your unique and individual needs.

The choice of hearing aids needed depends on your level of hearing loss and expectations for how the technology needs to perform. Everyone’s hearing loss and needs are unique, like their own fingerprints. Hearing aids are designed to optimize your hearing in all circumstances, especially challenging environments.

For example, if you have a profound hearing loss and live an active lifestyle, then you will likely need a higher level of technology than if you have a mild hearing loss and want some help to hear the television better.

Once the best hearing aids are chosen, our Audiologists will work with you to ensure that everything goes smoothly. And that involves commitment on your part too.

The options vary from as little as $3584 per pair through to $6714 per pair for prescription hearing aids and long-term care plans. The team at Port Credit Audiology has helped thousands of local people achieve long-term better hearing through following best practices and delivering high levels of hearing care.

With transparency and trust being incredibly important to us, here you can find details of each of our three treatment plans and what is included in each of them.

How Long Do Hearing Aids Last?

Although it naturally depends on how well they’re cared for, they typically last between four to five years before they start to show signs of decline. Think of your hearing aids like an automobile – after a few years, there is wear and tear and new technology comes out.

With that said, expecting to invest into new technology every five years is a realistic expectation.

Does My Health Insurance Cover a Hearing Test?

We understand that accessing quality hearing care services can be essential for our patients' well-being, and we strive to make it as accessible as possible. We ask that you check your insurance plan prior to coming in for your appointment. Although we are unable to bill most insurance plans directly, we are happy to help you navigate through the process and find out your insurance eligibility for you.
